We invite submissions that advance understanding and practice of agentic value (co-)creation in service systems and service ecosystems. Service systems and service ecosystems increasingly rely on agentic value (co-)creation, where individuals, organizations, and technologies jointly pursue goals, make decisions, and actively shape service processes rather than acting as isolated contributors and enablers. In such contemporary service ecosystems, value emerges through the combinatorial interplay of human and technological agency, calling for attention to how humans and agentic technologies jointly integrate resources in entangled service ecosystems (Vargo & Lusch, 2016).

Prior research highlights the synergistic potential of humans and agentic technologies, such as AI applications (Baird & Maruping, 2021), for value co-creation (Lusch & Nambisan, 2015), yet the mechanisms through which human and technological actors jointly create value remain insufficiently understood. Agentic technologies are therefore increasingly conceptualized not merely as tools that augment human capabilities, but as actors embedded within service systems whose contributions are shaped by – and in turn reshape – interactions with human and organizational actors (Bartelheimer et al., 2025).

As agency becomes increasingly distributed, critical questions arise concerning control, accountability, trust, and governance within service systems. Understanding how agentic configurations can be designed, monitored, and aligned within existing service architectures and hybrid service ecosystems is essential for realizing their value potential. Moreover, while well-aligned agentic service systems can enhance service quality, efficiency, and personalization, their success depends on organizational readiness, actor commitment, and willingness to collaborate.

In this year’s pre-ICIS workshop and associated Call for Papers, we aim to discuss both the opportunities and challenges presented by these advancements.
